It has been more than 20 years since Poughkeepsie’s last comprehensive plan and more than 40 since a zoning overhaul. The City is seeking a 21st Century vision that is sustainable, innovative, and equitable and that will support the Common Council’s commitment to a high quality of life for Poughkeepsie residents.
Although the City has been actively planning over the last 20 years, it lacks a cohesive vision for the City as a whole. Recent planning efforts include a complete update to the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), waterfront transit-oriented development area surrounding the Poughkeepsie Train Station, the Walkway-Gateway District near the Walkway Over the Hudson, and last year the City made its first significant zoning update with the Innovation District.
The City is looking to build off these recent efforts and develop a new comprehensive plan followed by strategic updates and amendments to its zoning code to help implement the plan.
