HOUSING DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Hamilton, NY

how can a small college town create desirable and affordable housing options for local workers?

SUMMARY

In 2018, czb worked with the Town and Village of Hamilton, Colgate University, and the Partnership For Community Development, a local economic development non-profit, to complete an analysis of the village’s housing situation and develop strategies to create new housing. The village was facing housing challenges for local workers at the university, the school district, and the hospital. Not only was there an overall lack of housing units for those who might want to live closer to work, but a variety of demand factors were creating upward pressure on home prices and rents. The final report recommended a strategy to gap finance and develop over 150 new housing units.
