To our credit, we Americans periodically mobilize
to tackle hard problems. It is one of our traits that distinguish
us from so many other societies, present and past.
Though not uniformly successful in every effort to
live up to our creed, we remain at bat, for the most part continually
swinging for the fences. This resiliency enables our compass to periodically
reorient towards greater moral purpose.
Occasionally our efforts are misguided, such as what
we now fondly but naively call Smart Growth. But even when misguided,
the values beneath such efforts are very frequently guided by American
aspirations for a greater good, and are thus in and of themselves
valuable.
case
studies
We will periodically post efforts to change the change status quo
and provide relevant commentary. We will attempt to provide examples
of noteworthy efforts to tackle challenges like poverty, neighborhood
distress, affordable housing shortages, and sprawl. We will provide
insights into such efforts, commenting on what we think is useful
and helpful. We hope in the process, provoking thought and, with
any luck, changes in approach when appropriate.
education
We will also try to surface issues that we think aren’t appropriately
understood in the field and attempt to clarify competing arguments.
research,
publications, and coverage
We will also provide leads on research, publications, relevant journalism,
and other sources of information on subjects related to the work
of creating healthy neighborhoods that may be useful to readers.
On a quarterly basis we will update this section.
We encourage any contributions you may have. We will post contributions
as appropriate. contributions@czb.org |
