Residents Start Defining the "New Normal"

On Saturday May 22 residents of four Norfolk neighborhoods – Lamberts Point, Kensington, Park Place, and Villa Heights came together to continue their work to stabilize and strengthen their community and their housing markets.  More than 100 residents came to the First Baptist Church in Lamberts Point.  Community leaders who have led work in gathering data, building consensus around deeply-help core values, and capacity building, came and presented early products of their efforts.

Residents participated in morning-long sessions to define and own a range of current “norms” from standards to behavior to property values, and then to articulate the elements of the “new normal” they are willing to work for.

Geo-coded Neighborhood Conditions

Efforts are now underway to start bringing the collected data into early stages of strategy-drafting work.  Residents have evaluated more than 3,200 residential structures, conducted more than 100 interviews, and taken more than 1,500 photographs of their community, establishing community-wide recognition for strengths throughout the four neighborhoods on which future stability and growth can be built.
